Art "The
God Father" Verdi
Orange, New Jersy 's,
5’ 9" Art Verdi was the first
man in history to break 1,100 Single Strokes
in 60 Seconds! The God Father has
been drumming for 55+ years and the technique displayed in his
"Practicing Properly" DVD
certainly reflects this maturity.
When asked how his involvement
with the WFD has impacted himself, Art replied, “The
WFD gives me a chance to share my ideas on how to improve one's
technique with many more drummers than I would without WFD. A
lot of drummers improved their speed by me recommending the Drumometer.
WFD competitions are a great motivator for many young drummers
to improve their technique. The WFD should not be responsible
for causing drummers to get the wrong idea on what playing drums
is about. It's common sense that the first thing we should do
in a band is swing it and play strictly for the music. WFD competitions
are like Home Run Derbies in baseball. The great hitters get together
and have fun seeing how many home runs they can hit. When they
go back to playing baseball they forget about that and play for
their team to win - just like a drummer would play for his band
to swing. If a drummer gets the idea that all drumming is about
is speed, it's the teachers fault - not the WFD.”
We really think it's the fault of the cat make-up, don't we Art?
